As educators and parents we have noticed the rise in the use of Smartphones amongst school aged children, and have witnessed some of the useful benefits and serious harms that can result from a 'life spent online'.
Smartphone Free Childhood is a growing movement, started in the UK, which seeks to empower parents to unite in a bid to regain childhood from screens and social media algorithms. We support parents who agree that young children should be protected from smartphones and only gain access to Social Media after the age of 16.

In addition to supporting parents with the important decision of 'when and how do I give my child a smartphone?', we are seeking new ways to support growing teens on how best to engage with, understand and ultimately use the new tools and technologies modern computers have brought into the world.

Our approach to screens and their affects on children are informed by the books Stolen Focus by Johann Hari and Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, as well as our own experiences growing up in a world with the Internet.
